5 Stars Xantrex Technologies XPower 175 watt inverter
This is a great product for using devices in your auto. It’s compact and can supply power for notebooks, GPS units, etc.

I highly reccomend it.

5 Stars Works well
I purchased this since I had a paper to write during a long car-ride (6 hours!) It worked fine the entire ride with my laptop and I was able to finish what I needed. It does “whir,” but that didn’t really bother me.

The only con is that it took me a couple tries to figure out how to insert the bulky device into the cigarette lighter. Read the directions on how to make the part that plugs into the cig lighter thinner/thicker so it fits correctly.

5 Stars Thank you!
We live in NE and this came in handy during the December ice storm which took out our power for 48 hours. We were able to keep our laptop charged using this so we at least had some entertainment in the evenings.

4 Stars Works Perfect
Works as advertised and it’s cheaper with more watts available than most units at most retailers. Be aware this unit it truly only a 150w model not 175w, it can only maintain 175w for short periods of time! Yes the fan makes noise I’d rather have a cool unit with a fan than a hot one without the fan! Yes you might notice the fan if you drive a luxury car and don’t have the stereo on but I don’t so the road nose drowns out most of the sounds from the fan.

5 Stars cheap but super good product
LOVE IT WORTH IT I HAD A BIGGER ONE HAD TO GIVE IT UP AND I FIND THIS ONE IT WORKS GOOD DOES NOT TAKES SPACE AT ALL IN MY LAPTOP CASE SO YES I W/SAY BUY IT ITS WORTH IT REALLY

1 Star a fuse blower with inadequate instructions
This heavy box has a completely inadequate manual. Upon the first test it blew the 15 amp lighter fuse in my otherwise indestructible Toyota 4WD truck, and I didn’t even plug anything into the inverter itself! No amperage specs or warnings are included with it anywhere, and Amazon’s website product description doesn’t even describe what’s included in the box when one buys the unit. At least they took it back…

Maybe if the prospective buyer is an electrician and can pre-check with testing equipment this unit could be ok, but I have to call it my worst experience buying something from Amazon, bar none! Nuts to anything that harms my truck!

5 Stars Works great
Very happy with this product - have used it in the car to run computer and other electronics.

4 Stars Power to go
This equipment works great. The only thing missing is mounting tabs which I assumed it would have.

5 Stars Low cost, high performance
Before buying this inverter, I read many reviews. I was looking for something inexpensive that would run a laptop in the car so the kids had something to play on. It worked perfectly. We ran the laptop and charged a phone with no problem. I’m sure it will handle much more, but that was all I really needed it for. I was very happy that I bought it. Thank you to everyone before me who wrote a review and helped me make my decision.

Dave

5 Stars Did the Job
Purchased the unit to use in my minivan to power my laptop and to recharge camera and cell phone batteries. Worked well and did not generate any heat (but my current demand was relatively low). Although the unit has 110 VAC outlets, they are close together and you won’t be able to plug in two wall-wart type units at the same time without a short extension cord. I located the inverter in the back, so I was not aware of the noise which was noted by other reviewers.

5 Stars Xantrex Inverter
I have used a Xantrex inverter in my 5th wheel for years because I don’t like to run a generator if I can avoid it. It has always worked well for me and when I saw them at Amazon at the price, I bought two of them for Christmas presents. So far, they have both been used and both recipients are very happy with them.

5 Stars Worked fine for a season.
i don’t know but I seem to go through an inverter every season. This one lasted only one season before I had to replace it as the last one (MAXXsst, 500w) had also lasted a season. I was only powering up a laptop (65 watts). I now have a Whistler 500w and have not used it for a full season.

5 Stars bodell
Just the thing to have in a short power outage. keep a couple battries charge up and you can have a 27 in tv and 13 watt =60 watt fluorescent bulb for about four hours.

4 Stars Excelent produc
Bery good produc, but you can’t used in to the cars because you do not put in to the cigarett light

5 Stars I love it, Just one Beware for you guys
I love this thing. Don’t make the mistake I did and reverse polarity from the battery. Zap. If you do though, mine was an easy fix. Open the bottom of the case and there are 2 40 amp (look like car fuses) fuses. I burned both of mine out. I replaced them and it is back to work. I use this thing for tailgaiting by the way. It runs a 32 inch LCD and Satellite receiver with no problems.

My solution for the reverse polarity.. Big Red Dot by the Positive terminal. I guess I have to make it idiot proof (me)

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars About average or a 5W solor unit with a small battery
This has garnered a lot of very negative reviews partly due to unrealistic expectations and mostly because of bad product description.

It seems that a lot of the reviewers really expected to get the equivalent off a Sunforce 50044 60-Watt Solar Charging Kit along with a Xantrex Technologies 802-1500 XPower Powerpack 1,500-Watt Portable Backup Power System. This is unrealistic to the point of silliness.

Unfortunately the product description is misleading to the point of bordering on fraud. There is no mention that the 10 AMP hour battery takes 45 to 50 hours to recharge at 5 watts and that the AC charger is only about 10W and disables all the outputs but takes 20+ hours to charge the battery. Because the system shuts of at 40% the 10AH battery is really about 6AH and that should be mentioned in the product description as should the rather unreasonable requirement to charge for 48 hours before initial use.

As a 5W solar unit with a battery and nice status readouts its OK but the low amperage AC charger is a big drawback particularly as it can’t be used with the outputs active. The AC power out is very dirty square wave and even the $40 inverter from Sam’s produces much better quality (at 1000 watts) although still dirty. Can only be used for Laptops or other devices that have a hearty AC/DC power supply or are very tolerant of dirty power. Not a bad buy but given the overall capacities should either allow simultaneous use of the AC charger, produce better quality AC power out or be considerably cheaper. It works OK for what I bought it for which is recharging a laptop which is rather a power hog and cell phones. But I don’t particularly recommend it.

BTW the packaging is nice you use a tab to release the top and once hats open the package splits into halves so you don’t have to lift it out.

1 Star better alternative $19.90 for most applications
For $19.90 (link attached)Kensington 33060 75 Watt Portable Power Inverter you can buy a small 75 watt inverter, and plug it into your car cig lighter outlet to power or charge laptops etc. I know you lose some portability, although they make cig lighter extention cords up to 20 feet long. I can see that it would be nice to have it in your tent and haul it around or whatever, but given that the best recharge rate in the sun is less than 1/2 a watt per hour and the unreplaceable battery will surely die in 4 years under the best of conditions, before you know it this will make a great boat anchor. The solar aspect seems cool, but if its basically useless and you throw it away in a few years ( more batteries and silicon in a landfill) that is not so cool.

4 Stars Good but not as good as promised
Had a power out and finally was able to use it; it powered my laptop for about 2 hours and then crapped out; this is from a full charge….

1 Star Not really usable
Return Details: Lacking any real power output FOR A POWER supply, way toooo long solar charge time of 48 hours in direct sunlight(solar thing a farce)!! Useless since can’t jumpstart a car, just uselesss period!! AC charge is 16 to 24 hours, car 12V charge is 3 hours before use from lighter socket. Any real runtime for smallest of appliances only.

5 Stars Works like a charm!
I use the solar powerpack primarily on camping trips for pumping up air mattresses and charging my cell phone. It works great! Much better than hauling your queen-sized Aero Bed through the campground after pumping it up using the outlet in the bathroom or the RV hookup sites! Although a little on the costly side, I believe this product is well worth it. My sister also bought one and she uses it frequently for her girl scout troop outings.
